Former Major League Baseball pitcher and current Texas Rangers president, Nolan Ryan, was hospitalized over heart issues Sunday morning. Ryan was taken to a Houston hospital for further test where he will stay for a couple more days.

Ryan had a double by-pass in 2000.

Party Like a Cincinnati Bengal

Cedric Benson, a NFL free agent running back, was arrested for the second time in a year in downtown Austin on an assault charge Sunday morning. Benson had a fight with one of his former roommates. Because the person whom Benson fought with was a former roommate the Austin police charged Benson with a misdemeanor assault with bodily harm with family violence. Benson was released on a $10,000 bail.

The former University of Texas player had led the Cincinnati Bengals in rushing for the past three seasons.

This is the second arrest of a Bengals player in a week. “Pac-Man” Jones was arrested for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, a misdemeanor charge, in Cincinnati after trying to leave a downtown bar.

Shootout Ends a Dream

Sounds dramatic? Well it was. The U.S. Women’s Soccer Team lost 2-2, 3-1 in a shootout against Japan in the Women’s World Cup on Sunday. The Women’s U.S. Team was the number one ranked women’s team in the world going into the tournament played in Germany.

The U.S. women’s team missed their first three shots losing 3-1 in the shootout.

Japan bested the number 2 ranked team in the world, Germany, the number 5 ranked team, Sweden, and the U.S. team in the final.

Funny or Die presents Field of Dreams

Field of Dreams Spoof

There have been many Field of Dreams jokes and spoofs since the iconic film was released in 1989. Funny or Die.com has released their “Field of Dreams” spoof in response to the NFL lockout and it’s worth the 3:09 of your life to watch.

Taylor Lautner reprises the role of Ray Kinsella, played by Kevin Costner in the original film, as the Iowa farmer that hears voices telling him, “If you build it, they will come”. Not knowing who will come, he builds a football field and current NFL players start to show up… and take over! (There’s nothing better than an orange soda joke!)

The spoof is complete with “Corn League Network” commentators Rich Eisen and Marshall Faulk, Ray Liotta, Dennis Haysbert, and a surprise cameo at the end.

Just to Clarify, if Marielle Jaffe had been in the original Field of Dreams, regardless of the fact that she was born in 1989, that movie may have been considered one of the top 10 movies of all time!

Football Cops Trailer -- Payton and Eli Manning

Peyton and Eli Manning are at it again.

Direct TV has released their commercial for the 2011-2012 NFL Football Package. The comedic trailer features the Mannings, Papa Archie as well, as ‘70’s looking retro police officers wielding justice in “Football Cops”. The spoof is complete with a handlebar and Tom Selleck like mustache from hard throwing former pro quarterbacks CJ Hunter (Eli) and Mike Tahoe (Peyton). Archie makes a cameo as the police commissioner trying to control his wild card cops.

The possible Ray Lewis inspired trailer is a must see. The football puns are great; the plot of the trailer is lost but that’s not the spirit of the spot. Peyton continues to show his media savvy and knack for finding the comedy in all of his commercials.

Let’s hope all their efforts are for not and there is a pro football season.

Football Quick News

Brandon Wimberly, a starting wide receiver for the University of Nevada football team, was shot in the abdomen and seriously wounded early Saturday morning. A group of Wolf Pack football players were arguing with another group of men when Wimberly was shot. Wimberly’s injuries are not life threatening.

Who is teaching my kid?

NFL DE Raheem Brock was arrested in Philadelphia for walking out on a $27 tab at Copacabana Club in South Street. When confronted about the bill, Brock entered into a minor scuffle before being arrested by police. Brock was charged with resisting arrest and theft.

Brock, a former University of Temple football player, was in town for a football camp teaching rising juniors and seniors. Brock was previously arrested in the Seattle area in November of 2010 on a DUI arrest. He was traveling 85 mph in a 60 mph zone. Brock’s blood alcohol content at the time of his arrest was .133. An “anonymous HogManInLA camper source” was quoted saying…“Shocker.”

NCAA Regional wrap up

Texas A&M defeated University of Arizona 3-0 today in a storm delayed game originally set for Monday. A&M advances to the Tallahassee regional to face Florida State. Texas A&M helps salvage some respect for the Big 12 in the NCAA Tournament. The Big 12 finished regional play 9-10. The ACC finished 16-8, PAC 10 18-5, SEC 18-6, Big East 6-5, and the Big 10 was 2-2.

#3 seed Dallas Baptist, an Independent team, continued their amazing season by surviving the Fort Worth bracket to advance to the Santa Clara regional to face another #3 seed University of California at Stephen Schott Stadium.

Pryor says, “Tat ya later” to OSU

Who is the least liked wide receiver named Terrelle in pro football? Terrelle Pryor, take a bow. He has easily outdistanced himself from the former disliked, Terrelle Owens. And Pryor has to be fooling himself if he thinks he will be a quarterback on the next level. Someone give Pryor former University of Arkansas quarterback Matt Jones’ phone number.

How kind or harsh will the media, blogs, and message boards be to Terrelle Pryor? He’s an easy target and deserving of all that he receives. It’ll be funny reading soft and easy headlines like, “Pryor leaves OSU” or “Pryor heads to the NFL”. Let’s be honest. The headlines should read, “OSU doesn’t want the continued headache and embarrassment Pryor has brought the school so they finally kicked him off the team”.

NFL plans for an 8 game season

Why? Why would the NFL plan for an 8 game season instead of a full 16 game season? Is there a law forbidding the NFL to move the Super Bowl back a few weeks? Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana is the predetermined site for the 2012 Super Bowl, XLVI. It seems hard to believe that the administrators for Lucas Oil Stadium would say no to the NFL if the NFL asked to move the Super Bowl back a couple of weeks. Maybe Roger Goodell has vacation plans in March thus having a full season extend into March would not be good for him? Do the players and owners have somewhere else they have to be this spring? It’s their job, so go do your job! However long it takes to finish it.

Wait, this makes sense. This is another attempt to yo-yo with the emotions of the fans and the NFL players. If the NFL Players Union does not settle on a new labor agreement, this “forces” the NFL and the owners into an 8 game season. This means the players will only receive half of their salary for the 2011-2012 season.

Anyone else tired of hearing about money, the U.S. economy, millionaires complaining about their cut, banks being bailed out, foreclosures, and our pro sports teams being locked out over “labor disputes”, aka money?

Say it isn’t so Ray!

Ego maniac, prophet, or crazier than we all thought? Perhaps a little bit of everything. All thoughts came to my head as I read Ray Lewis’ comments regarding the NFL lockout. The Baltimore Ravens linebacker said not only does he anticipate crime increasing for NFL players if there is no NFL season but also crime increasing for the general public in the U.S. He went on to say, "Millions of people live their lives through NFL players. If they don’t have football to watch on Sunday they will start to commit more crimes."

Really Ray? I’m a sucker for football on Sunday and I check my fantasy football stats 10 times too many throughout those days but I don’t live my life through any NFL players nor does anyone else I know. I don’t ever remember a coworker missing work on Monday because he and Brian Urlacher blew out their ACL on Sunday playing the Packers???

As for the increased crime rates, how has the NFL helped fight crime all these years without me knowing? Does the NFL logo strike fear into the hearts of criminals the same as the "S" on Superman’s chest? Has the NFL saved an old lady from getting mugged in Gotham City? Why have I not heard about this?!?! 

Is this how criminals decide how their days go? “Hey Bob, you want to rob a gas station?” “I can’t go Steve, the Bills are on at 1:00.” Have criminals made the fall and winter their off-seasons because of the NFL? I’m confused?

What will Ray do if the lockout continues? Let’s hope he doesn’t try to fight crime in Atlanta, obstruct it, or cause it (where is that missing white suit he was wearing?). I guess the NFL, that would be you Ray, couldn’t save Baker and Lollar from being stabbed after a Super Bowl party in Atlanta on January 31, 2000. Funny how the NFL and crime making, I mean, fighting works?

Just to clarify, if the NFL lockout continues perhaps the good citizens of Gotham City will not lose their paychecks gambling on "the players they live their lives through". And hopefully, domestic violence will decrease on Sundays during the criminal off-season because there will be no games for our so called NFL "heroes" to lose or fail to cover the spread.

Seems like crime might go on the down swing if the lockout continues. Sorry Ray.
