Quick hits

Stand up kind of guys

Chris Simms, quarterback for the Tennessee Titans, was found not guilty of a previous DUI charge this week. Simms had been pulled over while driving his SUV in New York with his wife, 8 months pregnant, in the passenger seat and two friends in the backseat. The arresting police officer said Simms was “zombie like” during the traffic stop. Simms later blamed the marijuana smell on one of his friends in the backseat saying “they took 4 hits of marijuana and that is why the SUV smelled that way”.

We’ve all heard this story before, “I didn’t do it. He did”. Blame falls not on the person of note but on the lesser known friend. Even if this story is true (which I doubt it) lost in this story is the fact that he let his friends light one up while his pregnant wife was riding in the car. That’s a family man with safety first. If Simms’ child has any birth defects we now know which side of the family to blame.

Ryan Mallett has to be laughing about this one.

What award do we give him now?

One week after winning the NBA Citizenship Award, Ron Artest clubbed Dallas Mavericks’ point guard J.J. Barea across the face at the end of Game 2 of their playoff series Wednesday night. Dallas won the game at The Staples Center over the Lakers 93-81 taking a 2-0 series lead. There was no need for Artest to foul Barea to keep the game going as the game was out of reach. This was an unnecessary hard foul, a Mike Tyson biting Evander Holyfield move; if you can’t beat your opponent in a fair game, cheat!

One’s true character comes out when they are at their low point(s). Artest’s character is shinning through. All that’s left for Artest to do during a game is attack the mascot. I hope it’s not the Phoenix Suns Gorilla.

Thanks for the ride?

Hines Ward was a passenger in a Honda Civic reported stolen Thursday morning in Los Angeles. Police pulled the car over when the driver, also the owner of the car, had to inform the gun drawn cops that the Civic was her car. Apparently a valet had lost her car earlier in the night and she forgot to inform police that she had found her car.

Ward had to be happy that Chris Simms’ friends were not with them.
